Cultural Minister Shih Che (史哲) says the importance of Taiwan’s National Museum of Prehistory should be on par with the National Palace Museum.
His remarks came at the reopening ceremony of the museum on Friday, after it underwent a three-year renovation.
Shih adds people in Taiwan should visit the museum at least once in their lives.
The renovated exhibition spaces showcase over 2000 pieces of artifacts, including archaeological artifacts from the Baxian cave archaeological site and the Peinan site in eastern Taiwan’s Taitung county.
The variety of specimens includes pottery, stoneware, jade, metalware, among others. The museum also showcases collections from Taiwan’s Indigenous communities, Indonesia, and the Marshall Islands, and says the collections highlight Taiwan’s unique position in the Austronesian community.
