President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) has thanked G7 members for showing their support for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait over the past three years. Tsai spoke on Monday, a day after the G7’s annual summit concluded in Hiroshima, Japan.

The president says Taiwan will continue working with like-minded countries to strengthen global democracy. She adds that Taiwan is a key topic around the world and she appreciates the support from Taiwan’s allies and democratic partners.

Tsai also says she’s disappointed the World Health Assembly did not include a proposal regarding Taiwan’s participation in the assembly’s agenda. She adds that Taiwan’s inclusion would benefit not only its people, but also global health and disease prevention systems.

The president says the global consensus is that issues in the Taiwan Strait must be resolved peacefully, and that war is not an option. She adds that the world increasingly values Taiwan, and the country will continue supporting partners like the G7 countries.
