A vacation abroad can be fun, but unexpected weather conditions can derail an entire trip. Recent visitors to Kinmen, one of Taiwan’s main offshore islands, encountered a situation that led to a series of flight delays and cancellations.

Passengers throw their fists in the air to protest flight delays caused by unexpected weather conditions in Kinmen. Hundreds of travelers were stuck at the airport due to thick fog surrounding the island. Visibility and safety concerns led to flight cancellations on May 22 and 23, but the uncertainty of when people can return home is chipping away at passengers’ patience.

The delay also raised medical concerns for some passengers. One woman with diabetes and high blood pressure says she ran out of medication. Another man with a cardiac stent says he has also been out of medicine for two days.

Travelers headed to the airport early in the morning in hopes of getting on the waitlist for the next flight, but even waitlists proved to be hard to get on. A couple says they missed their slot despite arriving early.

An airline official says they will change the two flights departing the island on Wednesday to larger-sized aircrafts to transport more passengers. What may have been a fun trip may just have ended on a gloomy note for many travelers.
