The Education Ministry has led a delegation of five leading national universities to the U.S. state of Illinois to discuss higher education cooperation and Mandarin language education under the framework of the U.S.-Taiwan Education Initiative. The delegation arrived in the U.S. on Wednesday Taiwan time.
The ministry says the initiative aims to expand access to Chinese and English language instruction in higher education. It adds the initiative will enhance Taiwan’s role in providing Chinese language education to the world.
The Education Ministry's Political Deputy Minister Lio Mon-Chi (劉孟奇) was accompanied by presidents and vice presidents of National Taiwan University, National Yang-Ming University, National Tsing Hua University, National Chengchi University, and National Sun Yat-sen University during his visit to Chicago, Illinois.
The delegation also visited the University of Illinois System, where they were hosted by Deputy Governor Martin Torres, President of the University of Illinois System Timothy Killeen, and Executive Director of the Illinois Board of Higher Education Ginger Ostro.
Lio says that the collaboration between Taiwanese and U.S. universities would focus on research in semiconductors, quantum technology, artificial intelligence, data science, sustainability, and Chinese language education. The two parties are scheduled to sign memorandums of understanding for collaboration in August of this year.
