Tuvalu Foreign Minister Simon Kofe has led a delegation to Taiwan for a six-day visit. The delegation arrived on Wednesday and Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry says it expects the two countries to sign several bilateral agreements.
This is Kofe’s second visit to Taiwan since taking office. Kofe, who also serves as Tuvalu’s justice and communication minister, says he is glad to be visiting Taiwan. He adds that the purpose of this trip is to strengthen diplomatic relations and increase collaboration opportunities with Taiwan.
Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry says the bilateral deals will expand cooperation on diplomatic training, technical exchanges, and mutual legal assistance. The ministry adds the two countries will deepen their partnership on justice, diplomacy, agriculture, public health, and climate change through these agreements.
Kofe is expected to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) during his visit. Kofe will also visit Taiwan’s information and communication sectors to help Tuvalu reach its goal of becoming a digital nation. Tuvalu is one of 13 countries that shares formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
