Taiwan’s Education Ministry has led a delegation to the United States, aiming to improve educational exchanges in the fields of high tech and Chinese language. The delegation headed by Political Deputy Minister of Education Mon-Chi Lio (劉孟奇) attended the NAFSA: Association of International Educators annual conference in Washington on Tuesday. More than 60 people from 24 Taiwanese universities participated in the conference.
The opening ceremony of the Taiwan booth was attended by Chair of the American Institute in Taiwan Laura Rosenberger, and Taiwan's Representative to the U.S. Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), among others.
In a speech, Lio says educational exchanges have made significant progress under the U.S.-Taiwan Education Initiative. He adds that he hopes this visit strengthens exchanges even more. He also emphasizes the importance of language programs in U.S.-Taiwan exchanges, as Taiwan has been an important center for Chinese language teaching, while Taiwan still has a great need for English teachers from the U.S.
Lio says Taiwan and the U.S. also have many opportunities for cooperation in high-tech research related to semiconductors, quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and data science.
In a speech, Rosenberger says Taiwan and the U.S. have now held three high-level dialogues through the U.S.-Taiwan Education Initiative. She adds that the opening of the Taiwan booth at the conference creates an important opportunity to promote Taiwan among the international education community.
