On Tuesday morning, President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) attended the Defense Ministry’s pinning-on ceremony, where she thanked service members’ dedication to protect Taiwan. President Tsai says officers who earned their promotion went through extensive training and deserve the utmost respect.
In her remarks, President Tsai says the government began implementing armed force reforms last year that are designed to upgrade Taiwan’s national defense. She says she’s happy to see more women volunteering to join the reserve force. She also encourages the officers who received their stars to demonstrate their leadership within their divisions to boost the morale of their branches.
Those being honored and promoted include army brigade commander Yu Chih-lung (郁智隆), who is promoted to major general. Major General Yu, accompanied by his family, says it was an honor of a lifetime and he is grateful for the opportunity to serve in the army.
