The Ministry of Defense is welcoming the U.S. Congress’s support in the upcoming defense budget bill. This week, the U.S. Congress begins discussions of the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a bill outlining the United States’ annual defense budget for Fiscal Year 2024.
The bill, marked by U.S. House Representative Mike Rogers, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, contains language supporting Taiwan’s acquisition of weapons and support for U.S.-Taiwan industrial collaboration. Defense Ministry’s spokesperson Sun Li-fang (孫立方) told reporters on Tuesday that the ministry is grateful for the support. Sun says that Taiwan welcomes allies’ friendly gestures and will continue to strengthen the military’s defense capability.
When asked about China’s recent military exercises that broke through the first island chain, Sun says the military is analyzing the situation and has planned counter-encirclement tactics.
