Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) visited Taichung International Airport on Monday morning to inspect the terminal improvement project. The project is expected to increase the annual capacity of the airport by roughly 800,000 passengers.
Chen highlighted plans to improve the surrounding transportation network, including expansion of National Freeway 1 and the ongoing Taiwan Route 74 project. These infrastructure developments aim to streamline traffic flow around Taichung Airport and Central Taiwan Science Park, further improving accessibility for travelers.
Chen acknowledged that the pandemic caused a decline in airport traffic due to reduced international flights. However, he also said the situation is gradually improving with the resumption of six routes and the expectation of continued growth.
As part of government efforts to increase international tourism, Chen adds that incentives are being offered, including prize draws for 5,000 NT vouchers targeting independent travelers. He emphasized that the government is working hard to attract more international tourism and hopes to increase the number of tourists visiting Taiwan to 6 million this year.
