Minister of the agricultural council Chen Chi-chung (陳吉仲) says his council will provide more support to the green care development in rural areas on Wednesday, which marks the 3rd anniversary of the council’s community-based green care policy.

Chen told reporters at the annual green care result ceremony that the agriculture council will invest more in the infrastructure and services needed for the local green care, an emerging concept of combining nature and agriculture with societal well-being systems.

According to the council, the green care policy incorporates the existing long-term care service system with local agricultural resources to promote green therapy and form a resilient supporting network. With the implementation of the policy, it hopes to enhance the elders’ engagement in public affairs, and pass on agricultural technologies and cultural heritages to younger generations.

As of today, there are 288 green care stations in Taiwan, providing long-term care service to 160,000 people in total each year.
