Taiwan expressed condolences to South Korea on Monday over the victims of the recent torrential rains. The rains have caused widespread flooding and landslides in the central and southeastern regions of South Korea, with thousands having to evacuate their homes. According to several news outlets, at least 39 people have been confirmed to have died as a result.
President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) requested the Foreign Ministry extend Taiwan’s condolences to the South Korean government and its people. Tsai hopes that the disaster-stricken areas will return to normal as soon as possible. Relevant agencies have also been asked to continue monitoring the situation and provide necessary assistance.
South Korea, now at the peak of their summer monsoon season, has had heavy rain pummeling the country since July 9 triggering the flash floods and landslides.
