President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) expressed her gratitude to the Taiwan-Thailand Parliamentarians Friendship Advisory Group for their efforts in strengthening ties between Taiwan and Thailand on Wednesday. Tsai received the members from the advisory group at the Presidential Palace and called each member a pioneer of national diplomacy.
Tsai thanked the friendship group for establishing a platform through which parliamentarians can communicate, allowing increased cooperation and exchanges between the two sides.
The president also said that Thailand is an important partner for cooperation in its New Southbound Policy which seeks to minimize Taiwan’s overdependence on any single market. She pointed out that exports to Taiwan’s New Southbound countries hit a record high of US$96.9 billion of which Thailand plays a key role.
Tsai called on the friendship group and the government to help reach the goal of deepening partnerships in multiple fields and strengthening friendly relations. She said she looks forward to the achievements of future collaborations which will help bring Taiwan to the world.
