Children from Changhua’s Dacun Elementary School sing Taiwanese folk songs in a church in Poland this week, winning the Grand Prix and a golden diploma at the Victoria Cracow International Choral Competition.
They performed four songs in English, Mandarin, Taiwanese, and Hakka, showing Taiwan’s diversity and inclusion through music. The 33 choir singers sang with their beautiful voices and unforgettable professionalism, winning over the judges and garnering a standing ovation from the crowd.
The Choir’s conductor and teacher Lin Yikai (林義凱) who led the group and wrote one of the songs says it is about building the children’s national identity and encouraging them to be proud of their culture.
The young choir singers say they are elated to be able to go to Poland to compete and win.
