A lecture series on transnational mobility titled “Migration to Inclusion: Our Stories of Migration” will be launched this week to foster appreciation for foreigners living in Taiwan. It will be held for free at HuaShan 1914 Creative Park from July 28 to July 30.
The event was organized by the Garden of Hope Foundation (GOH) in partnership with the Stanley Wang D-School at National Taiwan University.
GOH-Migrants Director Kaili Lee (李凱莉) said promoting, understanding, and breaking down barriers between foreigners and Taiwanese builds a diverse and inclusive society. GOH learned this through years of experience serving foreigners in Taiwan. This has motivated the foundation to engage in dialogue with the public through relevant exhibitions and seminars since 2018.
This year’s notable guest speakers include Japan’s Mainichi Newspaper Asian General Bureau correspondent Epo Ishiyama and founder of Indonesia’s Rujak Center for Urban Research, Marco Kusumawijaya. A traditional Indonesian dance will also be performed at the event.
The latest official statistics show that there are more than 840,000 foreigners living in Taiwan, 739,000 of which are migrant workers.
