The Taoyuan Airport MRT extension to the A22 Laojie River Station (老街溪站) began services on Monday.
Premier Chen Chien-Jen (陳建仁), who attended the opening ceremony, affirmed the project saying that the process was not easy and showcases the advancements in Taiwan’s engineering technology. He said that he believes this project, along with future transportation constructions, can become a model for Asia.
With the new station in operation, traveling around the Greater Taipei area will be made much easier for commuters as it will now only take ten minutes to reach the Qingpu District. Transferring to Taiwan’s main transportation networks like the Taiwan High Speed Rail, Taoyuan International Airport, and Taiwan Railways is now even more direct.
The 26-meter-deep underground construction utilizes advanced noise and vibration reduction technology, winning the Public Construction Golden Quality Award.
