The foreign ministry has announced that it will partner up with the economic ministry to hold five business councils and investment forums for four foreign commerce groups, including New Zealand, Australia, Mongolia, and Vietnam. The ministry says it intends to use these events to showcase Taiwan’s strong suits, including energy transformation, digital transformation, and bio-technology.
The ministry says it also plans to lead three trade delegations to Malaysia, Jordan, Somaliland, Peru, and Argentina for business matchmaking. The ministry’s deputy director for international cooperation Lin Mei-cheng (林美呈) told reporters that her ministry is also commissioning the Taiwan External Trade Development Council to hold multiple trade expositions worldwide. They will stop by Saint Kitts and Nevis, Guatemala, Belize, Palau, Saint Lucia, and Eswatini, which have formal diplomatic relationships with Taiwan, and also visit Uganda, Nigeria, Czech Republic, and Lithuania.
When asked by reporters about the ministry’s foreign aid policy, which hasn’t been revised in 13 years, Lin said that the foreign ministry has in fact drafted a new version, and is revising the details based on the evolving international situation.
