A coalition of judicial reform groups held a press conference on Monday to launch their review of the reforms supported by President Tsai Ing-wen’s (蔡英文) administration. The coalition, which includes more than 20 civil groups, analyzed 326 judicial reforms throughout the past 8 years.

Convener of the coalition, Judicial Reform Foundation Chairman Huang Hsu-tien (黃旭田) commended the Tsai administration for bringing changes and implementing the citizen judge system, protecting crime victims’ rights, and setting up special courts for labor disputes.

However, Huang also pointed out that there is still more that needs to be done, including enacting a protection law for whistleblowers, setting up a special relief system for cases of criminal injustice, just to name a few.

The coalition emphasized that while judicial reforms improve the country, government policies also need to be tracked and reviewed. They called on all the presidential candidates to listen to the members of society, build a social consensus, and move towards the direction of promoting a fair justice system for human rights.
