The military police command is planning to increase its base personnel in Taipei from 5,000 to 10,000. This will double its manpower and will strengthen the capital city’s counter strike capabilities, according to an unnamed source from the defense ministry.
A report on Monday said that the strategic planning department within the defense ministry is changing its staffing distribution within Taipei City in response to China’s aggression, namely its military police command.
The unnamed source told reporters that the staffing change will align with the upcoming one-year conscription plan starting January 2024. They say that part of the plan is to add one more battalion to the current 5 stationed in Taipei, completing the defense circle to protect key foundational infrastructures.
According to the source, details of the plan and its compatibility with the current armed forces demands are still being discussed within the strategic planning department.
