The world’s most expensive stamp will be showcased at the upcoming 39th Asian International Stamp Exhibition to be held in Taipei on August 11 - 15.
Described by Sotheby’s as the rarest and most famous stamp in the world, the British Guiana One-Cent Black on Magenta is a small 2-3 centimeter stamp worth NT$260 million (about US$8.6 million) and will be exhibited in Asia for the first time.
Themed ‘Wandering in the Stamp World’, the event features exhibitors from 26 countries and territories in Asia. Over 1,000 high-value domestic and overseas stamps will be available for viewing, including 21 stamps that have won awards at Asian postal exhibitions. Commemorative stamps depicting famous Taiwanese landscapes and souvenir stamps with much-loved Sanrio characters such as Hello Kitty and My Melody will also be on sale.
Organized by Chunghwa Post Company Limited, the exhibition comes after an 8 year hiatus. The event is free to the public and will be held at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1.
