Taipei and Hsinchu have confirmed their first cases of dengue fever in years. CDC spokesperson Tseng Shu-Hui (曾淑慧) said in an interview on Thursday that the CDC is working with city governments to apply chemical mosquito prevention and remove breeding sites.
According to CDC statistics as of Wednesday, a total of 1,261 cases have been confirmed in Taiwan. Infections in Tainan account for 1,053, followed by 146 in Yunlin, 41 in Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Chiayi, Taichung, Nantou, and Miaoli. The case in Taipei is the first in three years, while the Hsinchu confirmation is the first in seven years.
Tseng pointed out that the CDC has a total of six regional management centers throughout Taiwan and they will continue to assess developments and work with local health bureaus. She says that though the rate of case confirmation is higher than the previous epidemic in 2015, the CDC is now more experienced in the prevention and treatment of dengue fever. She says she believes that the central and local government's joint efforts will overcome the dengue fever outbreak.
