The Ministry of Transportation and Communications has reported a 95% increase in electric passenger cars, with more than 20,000 additional registrations compared to the previous year.
Last September, the cabinet approved a NT$980 million (US$30.8 million) plan to install public charging piles across Taiwan. The plan aims to speed up the development of charging infrastructure and edge towards carbon-free transportation.
In a press release on Friday, the transport ministry said that as of July, seven out of 19 counties and cities that have applied for the charging pile subsidy have received approval. These include Taipei, Keelung, and Hsinchu cities, as well as Hsinchu, Nantou, Hualien, and Lianjiang counties. These approvals include more than 1,600 slow charging stations and around 200 fast charging stations.
The highway administration urges counties and cities that have not yet completed the application to consider projected growth in electric vehicles and to apply quickly.
