President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), the foreign ministry, and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have all come out to express their condolences for those suffering through the fires in the U.S. State of Hawaii on Friday.

The blazes on the island of Maui broke out on Tuesday, in which a combination of dry overgrowth and strong winds from a nearby storm has led to one of the worst natural disasters in Hawaiian history. At least 53 people are confirmed dead, while more than 10,000 are displaced. The historic town of Lahaina has been burned almost completely to the ground.

The Taiwan foreign ministry issued a press release on Friday expressing condolences and an offer to provide humanitarian relief to Hawaii. It adds that some Taiwanese nationals have been affected by the fires, including the loss of property, and the ministry will make every effort to assist them.

The DPP Central Executive Committee also released a statement of condolence and wished the injured a quick recovery.
