Winners at the international Helsinki Cup youth football tournament, Ziqiang Elementary School girls team, were received by President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) at the Presidential Office on Wednesday.
The team recently returned from Finland where they were crowned Under-12 girls champions at the Helsinki Cup tournament.
Tsai said the team has worked hard and has a strong team spirit. Tsai adds she believes football can introduce Taiwan to the world, calling it the best form of sports diplomacy. She says the government will continue to provide more assistance and resources to help football flourish.
Tsai said the Ziqiang Elementary School football team has a long history and even offers football lessons starting from kindergarten, allowing children to engage in the sport from an early age. She thanked the school for its dedication to and promotion of football.
