Lai Ching-te says Paraguayan diplomatic trip bolsters bilateral ties

Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), who just completed a diplomatic trip to Paraguay, spoke with reporters upon his return to Taiwan early Friday morning. Lai shared the positive results of the visit and emphasized the continuing strong bilateral ties of the two countries. 

According to Lai, President of Paraguay Santiago Peña said that the friendship between his country and Taiwan is based on the shared values ​​of democracy, freedom and human rights. Lai says Peña committed to maintain ties and deepen cooperation with Taiwan. 

Lai highlighted Taiwan's development of a medical information system for over 200 public medical institutions in Paraguay and the establishment of the Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University during his speech. He said these initial cooperative projects with Paraguay in education and healthcare will only be strengthened and that new partnerships in electric vehicles, food processing and textiles are being discussed.

Lai added that Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua (王美花) will visit Paraguay in the future for further talks on the matter.
