Michelin Taiwan announced that 139 restaurants in Taiwan have been awarded Bib Gourmand for 2023 on Wednesday. 45 restaurants are in Taipei, 31 in Taichung, 36 in Tainan, and 27 in Kaohsiung. Of the 26 newcomers to the list, Tainan has the greatest number of new awardees with a total of 10 new winners.
The Bib Gourmand prize emphasizes value for money, with the criteria of being able to order three dishes for under NT$1000 (US$33). Despite the 26 first-time winners, the total number of Bib Gourmand awards is down two from the previous year. Some new winners include western-style dessert shops and one new vegetarian restaurant, bringing the total number of vegetarian winners to four.
The Michelin Guide for Taiwan was first published in 2018. In 2022, 38 restaurants in Taiwan received the Michelin Star, which is the guide’s highest award.
