Typhoon Haikui has weakened from a Category 3 typhoon to a tropical storm.  The Central Weather Bureau reported at 11 a.m. on Monday that Haikui is moving at 10 kilometers per hour and has already passed the Penghu islands of Taiwan on its way to China.

Haikui’s maximum wind speeds have lessened to a little over 100 kilometers per hour with a total storm radius of 150 kilometers. Land warnings have been lifted for Hualien, Taitung, and Taichung, but the area of the storm still covers the south of Changhua, Penghu, and Kinmen. The Taiwan Strait, Bashi Channel, and Pratas Island are still within the maritime warning range.

At a disaster response meeting on Monday, Interior Minister Lin Yu-chang (林右昌) pointed out that some areas of Taiwan will still be experiencing heavy rain. He specifically warned travelers to pay attention to weather and road blockage information and plan their itinerary and contingencies in advance.
