To promote national defense, the defense ministry will open the Hukou army base in Hsinchu to the public on September 24.
On the day, the public will be able to experience test rides in armored vehicles and get close up to artillery weapons. Civilians can also see the air force's Mirage 2000 fighter planes in action, enjoy an Apache helicopter aerial display, and watch a heavy motorcycle performance by the military police.
This is not the first time that Taiwan’s military has held an open-house event on base. The last event was held at Taichung's Ching Chuan Kang Air Base in August.
Major General Yin Chang-jung (尹昌榮), chief of staff of the Army's Sixth Army Corps explained at a defense ministry press conference on Thursday that the event’s theme is camouflage mobilization and national defense support. It hopes to enhance positive interaction with the public through the display of static equipment and dynamic drills. The event is co-organized by the army and the Hsinchu County Government.
Taiwanese nationals are welcome to attend the event and should bring photo identification.
