Taipei's fifth international Zentangle art exhibition for migrant workers took place on Sunday. It displayed more than 60 artworks and opened with traditional dance performances from the migrants' home countries. The exhibition was held by the Rerum Novarum Center, a center that provides legal advice and social welfare for marginalized workers, at the MRT Daan Forest Park Station.
The art exhibition has been held annually since 2019, and this year it was undertaken with the joint effort of almost 30 migrant workers, Taipei City Government Labor Department Deputy Commissioner Yu Chu-ping (游竹萍), the center's priest Hsu Sen-i (徐森義), and the center's Director Chung Chia-ling (鍾佳伶).
Zentangle art is a miniature abstract work that uses repetitive patterns and is an artistic method of relaxation. Director Chung says migrant workers at the center use Zentagle art as an outlet for their emotions and as a way to communicate with each other. Aside from the artworks, the migrant workers also prepared songs, dances, and other performances to help promote the understanding and exchange of their cultures to the public. Deputy commissioner Yu says she hopes the event can bring together diverse cultures and ethnic groups, and help promote tolerance and respect.
