A total of 35 Chinese sorties were detected around Taiwan since 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. Twenty-eight aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line and entered Taiwan's southwestern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), according to the Defense Ministry.
Of the aircraft, the ministry says they included Chengdu J-10, Shenyang J-16, Sukhoi SU-30 fighter jets, Shaanxi Y-9, Xi'an Y-20, Shaanxi KJ-500, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Some of the aircraft conducted joint sea and air training with the Chinese Shandong aircraft carrier. The defense ministry dispatched aircraft and ships, and deployed defense missile systems to respond accordingly.
The ministry's press release also showed a picture of the ROCS Kee Lung, a guided missile destroyer recently monitoring the Shandong aircraft carrier. The ROCS Kee Lung has a full load displacement of 10,500 tons and a maximum speed of 30 knots. It has strong air defense, anti-ship, and anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
In addition, Taiwan’s military also monitored a total of 27 Chinese aircraft, including nine that crossed the Taiwan Strait median line, and a total of 13 ships from 6 a.m. on Tuesday to 6 a.m. on Wednesday. Among them, a Harbin BZK-005
drone crossed the northern end Taiwan Strait median line and breached Taiwan's ADIZ.
