The Taiwan representative office in Slovakia is collaborating with local non-governmental organizations to provide a minesweeper for Ukraine. That’s according to a report from CNA on Thursday, which said the Taiwan government contributed 100,000 euros to the project.
At a press conference for the project, Taiwan representative to Slovakia Lee Nan-yang (李南陽) said that Taiwan has stood with Ukraine since the Russian invasion and will continue their support. Joining Lee was CEO of the Open Society Foundations Fedor Blascak, CEO of Pontis Foundation Michal Kissa, and project director Sergio Dailo.
Dailo expressed his appreciation for Taiwan’s support, and that Taiwan and Ukraine are both united in their commitment to democracy and freedom. He said that it is more important than ever to clear landmines and protect the safety of Ukrainian citizens.
The project, including Taiwan’s contribution, has so far raised 420,000 euros for the minesweeper, short of its goal of raising a total of 650,000 euros, according to the report.
