A delegation of Australian Commonwealth Congressmen arrived in Taipei on Monday for a four-day visit. The delegation will meet with Taiwanese government officials to discuss a range of issues, including Indo-Pacific geopolitics, Australia-Taiwan relations, and information security.
The group of congressmen will also exchange views on bilateral economic and trade between Taiwan and Australia. The bilateral trade volume has tripled since 2020, making Taiwan Australia’s fifth-largest trading partner and the fourth-largest destination for its exports. Australia is also Taiwan's largest supplier of energy and minerals.
The Foreign Ministry says that Taiwan and Australia have also continued to deepen cooperation in areas such as medicine, clean energy, public health, biotechnology, indigenous peoples, art and culture, bilingual learning, and vocational education. It says that, in the future, the two countries will further expand their relations through various exchanges and visits on this existing good foundation.
