Several Taiwanese athletes secured wins in the categories of Judo, Taekwondo, and Gymnastics at the 2023 Asian Games taking place in Hangzhou, China.
Taiwanese judo athlete Yang Yung-wei (楊勇緯) won gold after defeating Lee Ha-rim (李夏林) of South Korea in the men's under-60 kilogram weight class. Yang's gold medal was Taiwan's first at this year’s Asian Games and also Taiwan’s first time winning gold in judo at the Asian Games.
Athlete Ma Yun-chung (馬允中) took silver in the men’s individual taekwondo poomsae, and Chen Hsin-ya (陳歆雅) won bronze in the women’s individual taekwondo poomsae event on Sunday.
The Taiwanese men's gymnastics team took bronze on Sunday, while China took gold and Japan silver in the team event. This bronze medal was Taiwan's first ever in an Asian Games gymnastics team event.
The games began on September 23 and will continue to October 8.
