President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) met with Taiwan’s top ten agricultural award winners Tuesday morning at the presidential palace.
In her speech, President Tsai said that agriculture is the foundation of the country and confirmed that the government has been making improvements in the farming industry. She said that a newly completed three-part welfare system has increased subsidies for farmers who are working or retired, as well as those affected by occupational accidents. Tsai also pointed out that NT$126 billion (US$3.9 billion) has been invested in an improved production, marketing, and logistics system so that farmers can earn better incomes.
Tsai said that with the challenges of climate change and net-zero transition, the government will continue to use technology and innovation to build agricultural resilience. She thanked the 10 awardees for their contribution to the farming industry and said she looks forward to seeing improvements in Taiwan's agricultural technology.
