All 12 diplomatic allies spoke on Taiwan’s behalf at the United Nations General Debate during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. That’s according to the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.

The ministry said that their officials communicate with diplomatic allies and like-minded countries before the General Assembly every year to garner support for Taiwan's bid to participate in the U.N. Diplomatic allies with permanent representatives to the U.N. will also soon submit a joint letter to the U.N. Secretariat as well.

The ministry also pointed to the public support Taiwan has received where the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait was reiterated as well. These statements were given by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Czech President Petr Pavel who condemned China for exacerbating regional tensions, and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa in her capacity as the chairperson of the G7 Foreign Ministers meeting.

In addition, members of Congress from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Ireland, Hungary, Slovakia, Brazil, and other countries have also expressed their support for Taiwan through posts on social media.

The ministry emphasized that gaining support for Taiwan’s participation in the U.N. is a long-term task but assured that the ministry and embassies are working hard on the matter.
