The Central Weather Administration (CWA) announced a land warning for Typhoon Koinu (小犬) on Tuesday morning. The warning covers the areas of Hualien, Taitung, Pingtung and the Hengchun Peninsula.
The CWA warned that the typhoon will likely impact Taiwan the most in the next three days. As of 11:30 am Tuesday, the typhoon was located 440 km east-southeast of Eluanbi, maintaining a speed of 11 kph while moving northwest.
Deputy Interior Minister Wu Jung-hui (吳容輝) requested the CWA to continue closely monitoring the typhoon and provide updates to the relevant ministries and local governments. He also reminded local governments in the predicted affected areas to implement protective measures and establish emergency response centers. Wu said to utilize all available channels to warn the public not to travel to dangerous areas such as seaside, coastal, and mountainous areas. Police and coastguard agencies are requested to keep the public away from restricted areas for safety reasons.
