Land warnings are in place for a total of 16 counties and cities across the country as Typhoon Koinu continues its approach toward Taiwan. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) added an additional alert for Penghu at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Sea warnings are also in place for the eastern half of Taiwan, the Bashi Channel, the Taiwan Strait, and the Pratas Islands.

As of Wednesday morning, Typhoon Koinu's center was located 240 kilometers east of Eluanbi in Pingtung County, slowly moving westward at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour, according to the CWA.

Koinu is expected to pose the greatest threat to the island on Wednesday and Thursday. The CWA continues to issue warnings for onshore strong winds and heavy rains. The public is advised to refrain from engaging in sea activities and avoid mountainous areas. Low-lying coastal regions are urged to take precautions against seawater intrusion and potential flooding.
