The Golden Horse Awards are a yearly film awards ceremony considered to be the Oscars of the Chinese-speaking world. This year’s 60th awards will once again be held in Taipei, and the list of nominees was released this week, with several Taiwanese films and actors making the shortlist.

Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong (黃秋生) reads the names of contenders for the Best Narrative Film award on stage at a ceremony in Taipei on Tuesday. The films are nominees at the 60th Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards.
The Malaysian historical drama "Snow in Midsummer" (五月雪) received a total of nine nominations, the most of any film, including best film and best director.
The Taiwanese film “Marry My Dead Body”(關於我和鬼變成家人的那件事) is also up for several awards, including best film. The film has been described as a supernatural rom-com mystery with LGBTQ+ themes. The film’s two lead actors will both be competing for the best actor award, and all five best actor nominees this year are Taiwanese.
The film “Day Off” (本日公休) has also been nominated for best film, legendary Taiwanese actress Lu Hsiao-fen (陸小芬) came out of retirement to star in the film, and is up for the best actress award for her performance.
Head of the festival’s Executive Committee Wen Tien-hsiang (聞天祥) says that this year’s awards are record-setting in more than one way. The festival received the largest number of submissions ever at 552. 12-year-old Audrey Lin (林品彤) who is nominated for best actress for her performance in the film “American Girl” (美國女孩) is now the youngest actress ever nominated for a Golden Horse.
The 60th Golden Horse Awards will be held at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei on November 25th.
