New Power Party (NPP) Legislator Chiu Hsien-chih (邱顯智) together with the Taiwan Police Union (TPU) and the Judicial Reform Foundation (JRF) called for the government to implement a two-pronged approach to reduce the workload of fraud case personnel during a joint press conference on Monday.

Quoting statistics from the Justice Ministry, Chiu said that the number of new cases to be investigated showed a 36% increase. He said that from over 470,000 cases in 2019, this grew to more than 640,000 cases in 2022. Among these, telecommunication fraud cases rose nearly five times. In comparison, however, the increase in the number of prosecutors was only 240. TPU Executive Director Hsiao Jen-hao (蕭仁豪) also said that combating fraud cases has left the police understaffed.

Chiu said that the NPP already proposed draft amendments to the Central Government’s personnel act to increase the number of judicial, prosecutorial, and police personnel. JRF representative Pai Li-wei (白禮維) suggested streamlining judicial procedures, saying that this two-pronged approach would alleviate the workload of fraud case personnel.
