Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) announced on Tuesday that it will no longer consider building a factory in the third phase of the Taoyuan Longtan Science Park expansion plan. The decision comes after strong opposition to the expansion from local landowners.
TSMC says that it respects residents and regulatory authorities and decided not to comment further on the land acquisition matter. It will continue to cooperate with the Hsinchu Science Park Administration to assess suitable locations for semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Taiwan.
The Economic Ministry says it supports keeping advanced semiconductor processes in Taiwan, regardless of the city or county where these operations are located.
