A feast for the eyes and for the stomach is in store for athletes competing in Taiwan’s 2023 National Games. The games will be held in the southern city of Tainan, famous for its delicious cuisine. The menu for the so-called hero’s banquet has been created by chef Chou Jung-tang (周榮棠), whose restaurants in Tainan have been awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide.
Chef Chou will be serving up six traditional dishes meant to represent Tainan’s famous culinary culture using all local ingredients. Chef Chou says he hopes that the dishes offered during the banquet will highlight the richness of Tainan cuisine.
Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) has reportedly already tried the banquet's full menu to ensure it meets local standards. The 2023 National Games will be held in Tainan from October 21 to 26. While some athletes might leave the games this year empty-handed, they certainly won’t be leaving on empty stomachs.
