All proceeds from Kaohsiung’s Ukrainian charity market will go to medical and humanitarian supplies. Organizer Taiwan Stands With Ukraine will hold the event at the Hata Ukrainian Restaurant on October 28 and 29 from noon into the evening.
Conveners of Ukrainians living in Taiwan Lin Yue (林岳) and his wife Olga Kulish say that due to the harshities of the Russo-Ukrainian war, many communities are lacking important basic needs, such as medicines and other hospital materials. Lin emphasizes that this charity market is the joining of supportive organizers in both northern and southern Taiwan, and he hopes that Taiwanese people can attend the event.
The items at the Ukrainian market include Taiwan-Ukraine commemorative clothing, Ukrainian traditional Easter cakes, handmade cookies, and Ukrainian imported souvenirs. Lin says that many market stall owners are Ukrainians in Taiwan and they are not only fluent in Ukrainian and English, but also in Chinese. He adds that locals can learn about Ukrainian culture, how Taiwan has assisted Ukraine over the past two years, and that anyone can be of great help.
