Having successfully bred Yellowfin and Speckled blue groupers after several years of trial and error, Taiwan looks forward to exporting the fruits of their labor overseas.

Video script:

Seafood, fish especially, is a popular dish in Taiwan given the island’s easy access to water. Whether cooked in soup, fried, or steamed, groupers are a regular favorite given its light, sweet taste and flaky texture.

Yellowfin groupers and Speckled blue groupers used to be rare in the market given that they are normally found at depths of 100 - 150 meters. That was, until mariculture breeders in Penghu discovered a way to farm them using submersible net pens at only 10 meters, a first in Taiwan.

Now, grouper is more readily available. A kilogram of yellowfin or speckled blue grouper costs NT$1,000 (about US$32) in Taiwan, with hopes that it will surface in more U.S. supermarkets. In October last year, Taiwan-bred groupers were successfully exported to California and this year, orders from supermarkets in San Francisco have come in as well.

This only shows that with hard work, truly any-fin is possible.
