Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Lai Ching-te (賴清德) criticized the potential collaboration of the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) during a press conference on Tuesday. The KMT and TPP presidential candidates have received considerable news coverage in recent days regarding the possibility of a joint ticket.

KMT presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) said in a recent media interview that in an effort to depose the ruling DPP, he is open to serving as vice president together with TPP’s presidential candidate Ko Wen-je (柯文哲). With latest election polls showing the DPP’s Lai having a comfortable lead, whether the proposed alliance will work has garnered much media attention.

Lai says society is clear on whether or not the KMT and TPP would be compatible as partners. Lai called for political parties to cooperate based on a shared ideology instead of a sharing of power. He also expressed his hopes that China will not interfere in the upcoming elections.
