President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) honored a delegation of para athletes at the Presidential Office on Monday and lauded them for being the heroes of Taiwan.
Tsai praised them for their fighting spirit and for challenging themselves despite perceived limitations.
Taiwan garnered four gold, four silver and twelve bronze medals at the Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China which concluded on Saturday.
Tsai pledges that the government will continue to promote sports development for people with disabilities. She adds that coaches and athletes can also expect the government’s full support as they prepare for next year’s Paris Paralympics.
Delegation head and Chinese Taipei Paralympic Committee President Mu Min-chu (穆閩珠) thanked the president in response. She expressed gratitude for the president’s order for para athletes to receive equal treatment in accordance with Olympic athlete standards. She said the athletes appreciated Tsai’s support and thoughtfulness.
