The British magazine National Geographic Traveller has just published its list of the 30 “coolest” places in the world to visit in 2024. One southern Taiwanese city has received the crown of cool.

Street food and temples and food oh my! The southern Taiwanese city of Tainan has made it onto National Geographic Traveller’s “Cool List” of places to go in 2024. One southern Taiwanese city has received the crown of cool. us along with locations such as the ancient city of Pompeii, the Atacama Desert in Chile, and cities like New York and Miami.
Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) says that Tainan is proud that its unique history and culture has been recognized. Among Tainan’s most famous yearly events is the Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival, where crowds of brave locals try to withstand an onslaught of fireworks.
But in Taiwan, Tainan is perhaps most well known as a culinary capital, the home and birthplace of many southern Taiwanese dishes. One tourist from Hong Kong says he’s been wowed by all the amazing food in Tainan, and says it's too bad he won’t have enough time to try all the local delicacies.
2024 marks the 400th anniversary of Tainan’s founding as a city, so there’s no better time to come and see what this cool cultural hotspot has to offer.
