South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa expressed to China the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The trilateral foreign ministers’ meeting was held in Busan, South Korea, four years after the previous gathering of the three countries.
Earlier this month on November 7, the Japanese government emphasized the great importance of maintaining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait at the Fifth Japan-UK Foreign and Defence Ministers’ Meeting. The same message was delivered on November 17, at a bilateral meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Chinese President Xi Jinping (习近平) in San Francisco, U.S.
During the signing of the Downing Street Accord, a United Kingdom-Republic of Korea Global Strategic Partnership on November 22, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol also expressed concern about the situation in the Indo-Pacific region and the Taiwan Strait.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jeff Liu (劉永健) responded, saying that Taiwan is committed to cooperating with countries with similar ideals to safeguard the rules-based international order and maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
