Academic awards and prizes will now be revoked from recipients found guilty of sexual harassment, sexual assault, or related offenses. The Education Ministry has revised its awards policies to disqualify potential candidates or annul awards that have already been issued.
The Education Ministry stated that if allegations toward award recipients are found to be true after an investigation by relevant institutions or committees formed in accordance with the law. The ministry will not only revoke academic awards but also cease the allocation of cash prizes or grants and recover previously paid-out money.
The procedural changes were made with the consideration that academic award-winning recipients set examples for young students.
