President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) attended the inauguration ceremony on Monday for the Defense Ministry Medical Center’s new building housing a tactical battle and disaster rescue training facility. The new area will focus on skills in major disasters, multi-functional rescue, vehicle care, and hazardous environmental and material recovery.
President Tsai said that the National Defense Medical Center’s (NDMC) new building shoulders the important task of training emergency combat casualty rescue skills. She emphasizes that the comprehensive upgrade to a multi-functional rescue training environment, including the use of virtual and augmented reality and other technologies, will create realistic battlefield rescue training and better protect Taiwan’s military.
The president pointed out that in addition to training nearly 3,800 people this year, the medical center has also participated in various domestic emergency skills competitions and international seminars. NDMC also goes to schools or institutions to promote emergency rescue knowledge.
The President said she hopes that the new training upgrades will also help develop the psychological strength to withstand the high pressure of battle or disaster environments. She added that relevant ministries and hospitals will maintain close cooperation to implement military-civilian integration, strengthen social defense, and ensure that the emergency response mechanism can effectively coordinate resources from all parties to maximize effectiveness when it is needed most.
