The Taiwan High-Speed Rail Corp. (THSRC) announced on Monday that it will be increasing the number of train services next year to better serve the needs of passengers through capacity enhancement.
Starting January 3, THSRC will increase weekly runs of train services to 21 (11 southbound and 10 northbound) bringing the total number of rail services to 1060 per week.
To respond to the increased concentration of passengers traveling from Taichung northwards, trains running between Nangang and Taichung will have 8 train carriages allocated for free seating during peak hours, increasing capacity for short-distance travelers to and from the greater Taipei area, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung and other stops on the line.
Also addressing the needs of southbound passengers, THSRC said southbound trains will have an additional 6 runs on Mondays and 2 additional runs on Thursdays. For those traveling on the weekend for get-away trips or to go back to their hometowns, THSR will also increase 2 additional runs for Saturday and 1 on Sunday.
Interested travelers can purchase high-speed rail tickets for the additional runs starting December 6 this year from midnight in accordance with their presale schedule.
