Taiwan officially opened a new representative office in Montreal, Canada on Monday. The opening reception was co-hosted by Taiwan's representative to Canada Harry Tseng (曾厚仁) and office chief Rita Chen (陳珮瑩).
Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) told the attendees in a pre-recorded video that the establishment of the office in Montreal symbolizes the desire to deepen bilateral cooperation with Canada in various fields such as investment, science and technology, culture, education, aboriginal affairs, and health care. Wu says he hopes that the office will become a bridge connecting the people of Taiwan and Quebec.
Tseng said in his speech that the Foreign Ministry has established three new offices around the world this year, one of which is in Montreal, which represents the emphasis on Canada relations. He says the establishment of the Montreal office responds to the long-term expectations of Quebec expats and will provide better assistance and services in the future.
